The Harris is a Museum, Library and Art Gallery all under one roof in the centre of Preston - free to enter. It is a magnificent Grade 1 listed building which was established in 1893. It has it all!

Volunteer with The Harris
Are you over 16? Looking to gain skills and experiences in the arts sector? Wanting to get involved in the community? Sounds like you'd be a great Harris volunteer!
The Harris voluntary roles are quite varied, some are fairly permanent whilst others can be a one-off. They offer volunteer roles in four key areas:
- Event stewarding
- Collections research
- Supporting public programmes
- Tour guides
All ages and abilities are encouraged to get involved with The Harris and they are looking to diversify their volunteer cohort to better reflect the local population, age, ethnicity, sexuality, socio-economic status and disability should not be a barrier to getting involved.
The Harris will try to match your skills and interests with a role in the Harris that is just right for you.

The Harris in the Community
Creative programmes to promote mental well-being, bringing art to a wide range of community groups in the Preston area.
Working with partners in the local community, The Harris encourage individuals and groups that need extra support.
This work is targeted specifically at:
- Young people
- Vulnerable adults
- Minority groups
- Older people (through the Reminiscence programme) and services are provided either at the Harris or off-site in the heart of the community.
The Harris offer a wide range of activities from one-off talks, tours and consultations, to long-term weekly or monthly projects. All activities are inspired by the Harris collections and exhibitions and aim to improve social and life skills as well as improving health and well-being.
